Scholars from the Biblical Research Institute, as well as from Andrews and Loma Linda universities, participated in a union-wide Bible conference, January 25-28 in Tokyo, Japan, which focused on issues connected with hermeneutics, prophecy, and church mission.

The opening presentation by Jairyong Lee set the tone for the conference and Miguel Luna on the subsequent days dealt with “Mission and Contextualization.” Presentations on the book of Revelation were made by Ekkehardt Mueller and Jon Paulien. The concepts of revelation, inspiration, the authority of Scripture, and church mission were presented by Kwabena Donkor and Clinton Wahlen, while Ángel Manuel Rodríguez, Gerhard Pfandl, and Merlin Burt explored the prophetic role and authority of Ellen White. In addition, the work of pioneer missionaries in Japan was recognized and information shared about the work of Japan Adventist College. Following the conference, the team from BRI made presentations for lay leaders in various locales throughout Japan, including Okinawa.
